Mother's Day Weekend

Happy Mother's Day to Me......My 1st Mother's Day As a Mother of Two Under Two!  I love this picture of me and my littles on my special day.  Mainly because you can see the wear and tear on me.....the bags under the eyes;)  My arms are full of love, I am exhausted, yet so content!

And Happy Mother's Day to My Mom Ivy!  This year she got to celebrate with both of her daughters in town and all of her grandchildren.  It was a simple and meaningful weekend with my sister, my niece and nephew (Cher and Zack), my parents, and my little family.

If you ask my Mom what she wants for Mother's Day.....she will always tell you..."something that you make me!"  Usually this strikes me with anxiety and let me tell you that some years she has gotten a doozy.   {in particular I remember a pair of stepping stones that Chase and I made.....that were totally not functional with chards of glass sticking out of them;)}  But this year I was prepared with my pinterest board and whipped her up some homemade lemon sugar hand scrub.  It was so yummy and fits her well with her love of gardening.

My Mom and Dusty love to cook and are always in the kitchen.  This year they let Laken help out by dropping the potatoes in the water.  Miss Independent couldn't be happier!
My niece and my nephew.....love having them around for the laughs, they are both a hoot.  I always love when they come and anticipate how they have changed since the last time I have seen them.  Cher is now taller than me, and Zack is right behind her.

Playing on the floor....that's where Riv likes it best;)

Then we spent some time at the park.....Laken's new favorite past time.  She loved having a huge audience and having cousins to play with!  Zack loves kids and babies......especially his cousins.  He even asked Dusty if she would have another baby after this weekend.  He spent a lot of time talking about them, what they like, how little River's hands were, and playing on the floor with them. He even cracked a joke when I said that Laken doesn't like meat.  "She must be Jewish;)"

Here is a rare glimpse of Chase who was on call all weekend.  Poor guy was exhausted too....and had to sneak a cat nap at the park.  Riv liked having a blanket buddy to snuggle with.

River just recently started swinging at the park.  He loves it and is so relaxed with Auntie in the sunshine!

Cherridan Hope is typical teen....and just could not wait to go shopping at TJ Maxx.  She was very quiet this time and I was struck by just how grown up she seemed to me.  She really is a teen and it is still so surreal to me.  I remember her at Laken's age like it was yesterday!

Sitting on Gamm-pee's lap.  He pretty much lets her do what she wants and she likes it.  Fishing out ice cubes in his water glass, playing with his breakables, and marching all over the place with him in tow!
My sister surrounded by her and my babies.  I wish she lived closer so that she could watch them all the time.  She is amazing with little ones....I would know...since I was her shadow from birth.  She toted me everywhere when she was a teenager and I was a preschooler;)  What teen does that?  I am lucky she is my big sister and so patient!

Cinco De Mayo

We had a few friends over this year for a family friendly Cinco De Mayo, since most of our kids are very young and its hard to round up sitters.  It was a good time with good food, drinks, and playing in the yard!
I love this picture of Amanda, Jason, Savonni, and Riv.

As always Laken loves chasing after the twins;)

Usually it's Savonni giving hugs.  But today I caught a rare Laken hug for her buddy:)

Gymnastics Buddy n Me

Today Laken went to her first day of Gymnastics Buddy n Me class at 360 Gym.  The whole family had a blast!  The place is amazing.  We have tried several toddler activities in town and this one just seems to be the perfect fit for us.   It started with free play for a good half hour on obstacle courses filled with jumping, climbing, crawling, swinging on ropes etc.  Then everyone sang and danced to music.  And the grand finale was time in "the pit"!  Thank goodness Chase was there....another Mom warned me that one time she got in the pit and could not get out!  Chase was the only parent that went in and the instructor said the kids loved it.  At one point he was surrounded by 5+ toddlers throwing foam blocks at him and asking him to catch them:) Laken had a blast, she was so proud that he was her daddy!  For her first day she did great trying new things and interacting with the other kids.  River squealed with joy watching them all play.  It will be fun when he can do the activities too!

Just too stinkin cute in cowgirl boots!

Gardening with my Babies

This weekend we planted a few pots to stick on the patio.  Laken enjoyed playing in the dirt....she really loved throwing the rocks in the bottoms of the pots for drainage {so loud}, and sticking the plant markers in the dirt.  River bounced away in his toy gym watching the whole thing.  We planted basil for summer salads, mint for mommies mojitos, and my favorite plants- chicks & hens.  They remind me of my Grandma Breen.....she had them all over her garden and I think they are beautiful too.  The babies and I had a great afternoon on the patio together while Daddy was working on another DIY project:)

Morning Routine

I'm trying to document the little things, as I have heard that they are the things you miss the most when they are gone.  Right now our morning routine is pure crazy for me.  But I am sure that one day I will wish I could relive it just one more time:)

Daddy usually wakes up to his I phone's alarm around 5:30 am.  And the poor guy has to tiptoe around in order not to wake up the kids.  River still sleeps in our room, so he is ever so quiet shutting the bathroom door to take his shower, and shutting the front door when he leaves (it is between our bedroom and Lakens).

Anywhere from 6:30-7:30 my little Riv monster starts waving his arms or playing with my face {we are going through a faze....he sleeps with us at night....I know terrible....but it is what it is}.  I quickly grab a pacifier and sometimes he will go back to sleep for a few more minutes.  If not, we cuddle for a few minutes.  He is usually so warm and has the biggest smiles for me in the morning!  I quickly sneak out of bed {cue the crying because I left him}, tiptoe past Sissy's room to the kitchen.  Like lightening I make a milk cup for Laken, a bottle for River, and a pot of coffee for me.  I tiptoe back to our bedroom, pick up Riv, play peekaboo in the mirror, and then get him changed and dressed for the day.  We tiptoe back to the living room where I rock him while he drinks his bottle.  We talk about the day....and he is very happy!  I grab a cup of coffee and take a drink or two before I hear a whimper from Laken, meaning she is awake.  I put River on the floor with some toys.

I open Laken's room and she says, "Hewo!"  She has been playing with the light switch beside her crib so the lights are already on.  Her hair is wild and in her face!  She jumps up and down with excitement.  While changing her and getting her dressed for the day she says, "Baby?"  so I tell her where he is and what we have planned for the day.  We also talk about the colors of the tissue poms above her changing table.  Sometimes this distracts her enough, but usually she starts taking her toiletries and diapers out of the basket beside her.  Then we brush her hair and put it up {pigtails or half up}.

We walk to the kitchen and she says, "MiK!"  I give it to her and if she will let me I rock her while she drinks it.

I begin to make breakfast for all three of us with a toddler at my heels.  She usually starts by taking a kitchen towel out and "cleaning" the floors, or by following me around saying "nana?", but eventually she ends up crawling up into her booster seat at the kitchen table and sucks her thumb while she patiently waits for breakfast.  Sometimes she even taps her other hand.  About this time River cries, so I stop what I am doing to go get him {sneak in a tickle} and then buckle him into his highchair.

Here is a typical breakfast for the three of us.  Laken's bananas cut up, a little yogurt, and part of an english muffin with peanut butter.  I salvage whatever is left:)  And River has whole grain baby cereal mixed with a fruit puree.

During breakfast I give River a spoonful {sometimes I remember to make buzz noises while flying it into his mouth}, entertain Laken by talking about the llamas outside, and the foods she is eating {this is an important step so that she does not get bored....boredom at the table means food on the floor!}  River spends his time watching Laken....so I have to redirect him to his spoon frequently.  Most of the time I do not remember how and what I ate, it just disappears.

And then we clean up, get ready for the day, go to the gym and gymcare, watch Elmo's world, change diapers, sing songs, do chores, in any order & repeat.  It is always crazy and busy and I would not have it any other way!
